Exhibition event for people with disabilities at Loughborough University
Members of the EKF squad recently attended an exhibition event at Loughborough University for people with disabilities. The ASAAL event was held at the world famous University, where Mick Billman, BKF Disability Patron David Smith MBE, and Mark Symonds, were joined by Jon Mottram, Emma Lucraft, and Katie and Steve Karwacinski.
Jons’ team held taster sessions, demonstrations, and provided information to attendees, which was received with great enthusiasm, and was for many, the first time that they had witnessed karate for people with disabilities.
The event also held a conference based around encouraging sports participation by people with disabilities, with keynote speakers from the sports world. The conference was attended by both Mick and David, who were involved in speaking with representatives from various sports organisations and bodies. David was also invited to speak at the conference and did so, receiving a generous round of applause from those present.
Meanwhile, Jon, Kate, Steve, and Emma were invited by the wheel chair dance team to try out wheelchair activities. It was agreed that this gave all four a totally new perspective on teaching karate to wheelchair users.
