The English Karate Federation: Supporting Our Members Beyond Karate
At the English Karate Federation, we recognise that our members lead busy and often stressful lives. While karate provides discipline, focus, and fitness, we know there are times when life’s challenges feel overwhelming, and it's hard to know where to turn. We want to remind all our members that the EKF is here to support you—no matter what.
This month, we’re focusing on men’s health, particularly prostate cancer. Did you know that prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men in the UK? In fact, 1 in 8 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime, and the risk increases if you’re over 50, Black, or have a family history of the disease.
Despite these statistics, many men are still reluctant to get tested. Some avoid it due to embarrassment, fear, or simply thinking, "It won’t happen to me." But early detection is key—90% of men survive prostate cancer when it’s detected early, making it essential to get checked, even if you feel fine.
We’re encouraging all our members to take their health seriously. If you’re unsure where to start, Prostate Cancer UK offers a range of resources, including advice on symptoms, testing, and support. They also provide information about who’s most at risk and what you can do to protect yourself.
It’s never too late to take control of your health, and the EKF is here to support you, whether you need information, encouragement, or someone to talk to.
