Andrew Slade

Performance Director

Andrew Slade has trained in martial arts since he was eight years old, mastering disciplines such as Karate, Thai Boxing, Wing Chun Kung Fu, Boxing, and Jujitsu. Alongside his extensive martial arts background, he excelled in five other sports at a national level. Andrew holds both an Honours Degree and a Master’s Degree in Sports Science, specializing in Biomechanics, Physiology, and Psychology. His research has been internationally published, focusing on applied psychology, mood states, and performance outcomes within the realm of martial arts.

Andrew has worked with elite international athletes and teams, emphasising the integration of physiological, biomechanical, and psychological aspects to enhance performance. He is passionate about developing young athletes and recognises the myriad benefits traditional karate and martial arts offer to both youth and adults. He is inspired by the global Karateka community, which fosters bonds that transcend cultural, linguistic, gender, racial, and societal differences. At its core, martial arts training celebrates diversity and promotes a positive global community, upholding high standards and values.

Currently, Andrew serves as the Principal and CEO of Oaklands College in Hertfordshire, a hub for sporting excellence. The college nurtures over 600 elite athletes across various disciplines, many of whom advance to elite teams or represent their countries in the Olympics and Paralympics. Driven by high personal aspirations, Andrew remains committed to fostering a culture of excellence and inclusivity in sports.
