Battle Of The Teams – Rotterdam 1st December 2018, EKF Northern Region Kumite Team

The EKF Northern Region Kumite Team attended its second international event at the Battle of the Teams in Rotterdam on 1st December 2018.

The results were not to come via wins or loses but by points scored so the right tactics were essential to bring back medals with teams from all over Europe in attendance this wasn’t going to be an easy task and what better way to test and develop the athletes.

Sadly, some of the athletes selected did not attend the event due to injuries or illness therefore some of the Northern Teams only had two participants but this did not dampen spirits as their performances went on to prove.

As this was the second time that the Northern Team attended this event and taking 41 athletes (17 teams) covering each age group the day was to be a very successful one for the Northern Region Team and surpassing last years results with athletes excelling and performing to a very high standard against some of the best fighters in Europe in their age groups.

The atmosphere and spirit within the team was fantastic and the athletes did extremely well and delivered the tactics instructed to them by the Northern Regional Coaches Sensei Frank Pullano & Sensei Matt Handley.

Following a long day’s competition, the Northern Region Coach Sensei Frank Pullano reflected on the day’s event and results and is very proud of every athlete who attended the event. However, the outstanding performances of the day had to go to the 12-13yrs Boys – Isaac Lilly, Jack Moran and Jamie Walker who took the gold medal beating the favourites Unity99 (Netherlands) with great determination and a never say die attitude, fighting to the final YAME in every round!

A special thank you to all the parents and supporters of the Northern Regional Team you were certainly heard and your support of all the athletes was outstanding. The organisers of the event asked me to thank you all for your support and the noise you all generated in supporting the team and the event.

Well Done Northern Region Kumite Team!!!
