EKF Kumite and Kata Squad Training dates and Referees Courses and Coach Accreditation for 2019

Changes to Squad Training for 2019
From January 2019 National squad training for Kumite and Kata will take place at the same venue on the same day. Kumite training times will be 9:30am-1:30pm and Kata training times will be 2:00pm-6:00pm. As there will be no need for a lunch break the training sessions will be more intense incorporating short drink breaks only.

It is planned that joint Kumite and Kata strength and conditioning training will take place each quarter and on those dates Kumite will start and end at the same times and Kata will commence at 12:30pm finishing at 4:30pm, the applicable months are January, April, July and October.

The referee’s department will align their training courses, exams and coaches accreditation to squad training dates. Please refer to the dates set out below. Please note that only elite referees will be commissioned to officiate at selections.

On selection days, accredited coaches will be allowed to remain in the hall and observe selections. We see this as an important opportunity for coaches to view their athlete’s performance. This will be trialled from January 2019 and coaches will need to show and display their EKF coach accreditation card in order to observe selections.

EKF to send a small squad to the Commonwealth Karate Federation (CKF) Karate championships in Durban

The EKF will be sending a small squad to the Commonwealth Karate Federation (CKF) Karate championships being held in Durban next over the first weekend of December.

The CKF Championships is now sanctioned and supported by the WKF with the long term aim of seeing karate introduced to the full Commonwealth games. These championships mark the start of that campaign.

The EKF Board took the decision to be part of that journey to support the inclusion of karate into the Commonwealth Games by sending a squad to South Africa. Furthermore, the EKF applied and were successful in our bid to host the 2020 CKF Championships. We hope to hold this event in Birmingham which will be the Commonwealth Games host city in 2022.

The EKF Board see this as an exciting opportunity, and one that will give our members a chance to compete internationally on our own shores, as well as chance to showcase the EKF.

The squad selected by the EKF National Coaches:

Amelia Harvey,
Carla Burkitt,
Natalie Payne,
Kate Karwackinski,
Joe Kellaway
Chris Karwackinski. Unfortunately Chris is unable to attend due to an injury and we wish him a speedy recovery.

Head of Delegation will be Performance Director Greg Francis, our coach will be Regional Coach Satinder Sehra and Medical Support will be provided by James MIles-Christensen.

Our President Steve Coupland will attend representing the EKF Board.

The squad and support team fly out to Durban tomorrow and we wish them the very best for these Championships.

53rd EKF Senior Championships, Novi Sad, Serbia, May 10-13 2018

So far under the new kumite coaches the EKF squad have won 7 medals in 15 months that's more than half the kumite medals that were won in the previous 5.5 years. Under the Kata coaches the EKF has won 2 medals so far plus the Youth Kata medals 6 so things are looking good for the squads. There's 2 weeks to go until the Senior athletes take to the stage at the Senior Europeans in Novi Sad, fingers crossed that the medals continue to roll in. We have many talented athletes and a huge wealth of experience with our kata and kumite Coaches.

The competition starts on Wednesday 9th May.
