Natalie Williams at World Sport Accord Combat Games
In March 2009, SportAccord signed an agreement with the city of Beijing, P. R. China, to organise the first SportAccord Combat Games. Scheduled from 28 August to 4 September 2010, the competition will showcase 13 Martial Arts and Combat sports, both Olympic and non-Olympic. The event will also include a Cultural Program that will reflect the social and cultural values of these sports and Combat Games as a whole.
Each sport will have 80 top athletes competing in the 2010 SportAccord Combat Games. These athletes will go through the qualification system set up by their respective International Federation. It is expected that the world best martial arts and combat sports athletes will qualify for the Combat Games. Both male and female athletes will take part. For those sports requiring weigh-in, different weight categories will be included.
The EKF is proud to announce that Natalie Williams flies out today to represent the EKF and the WKF at the World Sport Accord Combat Games in Beijing China with Greg as Natalie's accompanying Coach. Natalie will be competing on Tuesday 31st August we hope to bring you an update of Natalies progress at this prestigious event.
During the eight days of competition, the 2010 SportAccord Combat Games will also include a cultural programme. Indeed, martial arts and combat sports have rich cultural heritages and convey social and educational values. The Combat Games will then serve as a great opportunity to enable deeper understanding of the sports by the public.

Nice Championships Report
In summary there was a great team spirit :-) and some good individual moments of excellence. Natalie never lost a fight the whole tournament and showed a remarkable degree of mind control throughout the tournament. She achieved a Gold in the Individuals and a Silver in the Team along side Katie and Carla.
Katie too achieved Gold in the Indiividuals and showed great determination to throw gaku despite her recent injury to her face.
Carla showed a mature and experienced account of her introduction to the International Open was one to be remembered. She showed no fear and looked and performed as well as the best at that tournament.
Stephanie was the most improved individual athlete and her obvious natural talent was second to her mental talent. She has the mind of a karate oracle and if she continues to use both talent and mental capabilty in conjunction with each other as she did this weekend, it will be hard to beat.
Rio has started to believe in herself and scored with some very strong gakus and head kicks including an axe kick. It was a good achievement for Rio in that her confidence and in her own ability this was high and it was directly reflected in her fights on the mat, including an 8:0 win against South Africa.
Alice used her speed and natural raw talent to win an 8:0 victory over South Africa and was relaxed and high in self confidence. Alice is keen to improve and will do but basically needs to fine tune her attacks in increase her point conversion rate, because with what she has, she should be scoring on every attack.
-------------
On Thursday, after about a six hour delay at the airport due to a strike by French air traffic control, the ladies team managed to get on the last flight to Nice, France arriving at their accommodation betwen 10-11pm at night. Carla, Rio, Stephanie, Alice, made it through some early rounds but unfortunatey no medals. For Natalie and Katie it was a different story altogether, after some close fights each came out on top with a gold medal in their individual events. Today (Sunday) sees the ladies in the team event.

Montenegro International 2010
On Friday the 5th March 2010, for the first time in fourteen years, a British Karate team assembled in preparation for a trip to Montenegro. Meeting at London Heathrow's Terminal 4, the party was headed by myself, Mike Billman (England) Vice-President of the BKF, special guest Ticky Donovan OBE (England), referee Chico Mbakwe (Wales) and, in the absence of Wayne Otto OBE, squad manager Gerry Fleming (Scotland.)
The British team consisted of Davin Pack, Lee Heath, Natalie Williams and Katie Hurry from England, Callum Robb, Steven Murray, Craig Moffatt, and Chloe McLean from Scotland, Rob Scott from Wales, and James Brunton from Northern Ireland. Welsh coach, Paul Scott, Rob's father, also accompanied the team.
The round-robin match was organised by my European Technical Committee colleague, Rajko Vujosevic, to celebrate the 40th anniversary of his karate club, in Podgorica, Montenegro.

English Karate Associations (EKA) Championships April 2010
The board of the EKF do not recognise the (EKA) English Karate Associations as it is not a member of the EKF, it therefore follows that the EKF do not recognise the forthcoming EKA championships to be held April 10th 2010 at the Richard Dunn Centre Bradford.
The EKA championships is therefore NOT an EKF authorised event, and the advice from the EKF board is NOT to have sporting relations with non-EKF members.

Tatami Coaches Accreditation
Dear Association Coaches.
Please be advised that from January 1st 2011 everyone who wants to coach at any EKF regional or national championships will need to hold a current tatami coaches accreditation.
This is something that has been in place previously and is now going to be put back into practice, this will not affect any competitions for this year. Anyone wishing to gain this accreditation, or revalidate their's can do so by attending any Kumite course and taking the tatami coaches exam. This will entail sitting through the theory at the beginning of the course and then sitting a written exam. The cost will be £15 and will be valid for two years. Two passport size photos will be required.
NO passes will be issued on the day of competitions.
This exam will only be available on Kumite courses and the dates for these can be found on the EKF website. Please see Referee's section for details of upcoming courses »

Squad Training Report for February 20th 2010
With the junior Europeans now over our eyes now turn to the Senior squad.
This was the first session since the Junior European's and was very well attended with over a hundred either participating in kumite or kata. For some, this was their first taste of England squad training and what's expected of them if they make it on to the 'A' squad.
National Coach Wayne Otto OBE and assistant coach Ian Cole took the main kumite training session, whilst Ady Gray took the kata squads for this session. It was also new EKF Chief Referee Dale Gamble's first referee session since accepting the position. Click here to view a video from the session »

The referees had a theory session whilst the squad were in training then after lunch the 'A' squad went to a seperate hall to continue training as did the kata squad and the referees then continued with a practical session.
There were 2 tatamis used for selections for 'A' squad and the men & womens teams for the forthcoming Senior Europeans. Both Wayne Otto OBE and Dale Gamble were pleased with the attendance and the running of the sessions.
The next training session for the 'A' squad will be in March details will be sent to those concerned asap
