A reminder from the EKF CRB Officer
May I remind groups of the EKF CRB requirement.
Many groups have, and are complying with EKF CRB requirements, but some are not. Can I remind all associations within membership of the EKF that it is a requirement to have all your instructors and persons who coach or have access to children and or vulnerable adults enhanced CRB checked. The details should be passed to the EKF CRB officer. The EKF require the CRB to be renewed every two (2) years.
Regards

A message from the EKF CRB Officer
All associations please note: Many people are not taking out or renewing their CRB's due to the impending ISA requirement. The EKF require that Enhanced CRB's are obtained and renewed every two (2) years for all Instructors/Coaches who teach adults and children, and all persons who have dealings with children and/or vulnerable adults.
News from the CRB regarding ISA (Independent Safeguarding Authority)
Phase 1
The new ISA requirement will launch on 12th October 2009 and will provide for increased safeguards that will further enhance the protection of children and vulnerable adults... Initially all that will happen is that I, as the CRB officer will apply small changes to the way that I currently apply for CRB checks, nothing to do on your part.
Phase 2
Will be introduced next year 26th July 2010 and will allow individuals to apply for ISA registration, which we will all have to.... What this means is that a new type of form will be introduced by the CRB, which you will be required to fill in, those with current CRB's will not need to bother with the ISA until it become necessary to re apply for your CRB.
I have heard although not officially, that those with current Enhanced CRB's, will be left to later as you can imagine the massive scale of the database. So the earliest will be 26th July 2010 or possibly later.
My understanding is that - those not on the CRB/ISA list will not be allowed to teach children or vulnerable adults, anyone who does so risks prosecution by the authorities.
All information regarding CRB and ISA requirements are available on the web at www.crb.gov.co.uk

Visiting overseas instructors
The EKF do not require visiting overseas instructors to be CRB checked, but what we require is for all groups to simply establish a code of practice including such items as insuring that any overseas visiting instructors are never left alone with young people or vulnerable adults etc. In some cases that code of practice may require that the host instructor makes clear and outlines any unacceptable cultural practices and codes of behavior that may cause offence or be unacceptable in the Dojo in the UK. We also advise that your association Child Protection officer, or deputy is present at any training sessions.
